Right to educational toys.
Our constitution states that all children have the right to education. But a lot of innovators in our country are taking this idea a step further and creating educational toys for the underprivileged. This inspired our latest designer, Mayur Mengle to tell their story and create 'Homegrown Innovators' for Taxi Fabric.
Speaking of his design Mayur says, “I stumbled upon the work of Arvind Gupta, who makes educational toys from trash for underprivileged children. I was greatly inspired by his work and the way it was contributing to the world. A curious mind made me look up for more such small scale innovators and was surprised at their presence in such huge numbers in India. This is what encouraged me to tell their story to the world - Taxi Fabric became my canvas.”
Mayur started his design career after graduating from L.S Raheja School of Art. In the last five years he’s worked at some of the leading advertising agencies in India like CLA, JWT and Ogilvy.
“Thanks to great mentors at JWT, Mumbai, I had a great learning experience. All along the journey, I didn’t hit any roadblocks I couldn’t overcome.”
He feels India as a nation is witnessing an era of change when it comes to design.
“Many opportunities in the form of startups, street art, collaborations among artists are helping design to find its place and become a part of everyday lives.”
Everything from old houses to historic monuments inspires him to create his work as a designer. And Taxi Fabric for him is a “great platform where creatives can connect with the common man through the language of design.”
“I was born and brought up in Mumbai and had been travelling in taxis since childhood. I had never thought that one day I’ll stumble upon an opportunity to beautify a taxi and bring cheer to the lives of a taxi driver and his travellers.”
Well, we hope that someday one of the innovators hops into Mayur’s taxi. It will bring a cheer to his life as well.
